144A compliant issuance from Canada and Europe has exclusively been the way for US investors to buy Covered Bonds in the past 12 months.

There are rumours of a push for 3a2 documentation compliant Covered Bonds to ensure issuers continue to tap the US Covered Bond investor base. US Covered Bond legislation in 2012 is looking less and less likely.

However, with turbulent US markets, down-at-heel European markets and healthier Australasian markets all now playing their part in the international Covered Bond party, points for discussion and debate remain varied and immensely interesting.
