The Euromoney US Covered Bond Investor Forum will celebrate its 5th anniversary on Thursday 7 March 2013 in New York.
In March 2007 Euromoney Conferences launched the first editorially led Covered Bond Conference in the USA, before any other conference company had organised a forum for the product. Euromoney Conferences has organised more Covered Bond conferences in more countries than any other conference organiser.
During recent years significant changes have occurred in the global Covered Bond market. Not least in Canada, where recent amendments to the National Housing Act set-out to establish a legal framework for covered bonds. However in the US, the future of the market remains a controversial issue for the governing bodies, as they fail to reach an agreement on the fundamentals of a US framework. Despite the ongoing uncertainty, investor appetite in the US for covered bonds continues to grow, spurring the hope that decisions on future legislation are soon to be made.
With the housing market in the US still ravaged by the crisis and looking for ways to regain its strength, there seems no better time to pass the necessary laws to establish a much needed covered bond market.
The Royal Bank of Canada’s SEC Registration showed a strong commitment to dollar issuance, BayenLB’s $500m benchmark deal saw one of the lowest ever coupons in the dollar Covered Bond market while NordLB’s dollar Covered Bond broke the German dollar issuance drought. Offshore, issuers’ hunt for the Yankee dollar continues.
Each year Euromoney’s US Covered Bond Investor Forum attracts around 250 leading market players from across the globe. A great mix of investors, issuers, legislators and financial intermediaries unite at the Forum every year to discuss the future of this vibrant market. Be sure to join us on Thursday 7 March 2013 in New York.
