Biografia	Liliana is head of emerging market and Asia equities. She is a highly experienced portfolio manager and accomplished team leader, having managed equity strategies for more than 20 years. Liliana joined Newton from Wellington Management, where she led the development and management of various emerging-market strategies, including the Emerging Market Small Cap Discovery and Emerging Market Impact strategies, initially from Singapore and latterly from London. Liliana began her career as an emerging markets analyst at HSBC in New York, before spending 18 years at AllianceBernstein, where she was lead portfolio manager of the AB International Discovery Fund and the thematic AB Emerging Consumer Fund. She has a bachelor’s degree in economics from Universidad de Carabobo in Venezuela and an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management. Outside of work, Liliana enjoys travelling and yoga. Biografia	Alex Khosla is a member of Newton’s emerging markets and Asia equities team. Alex joined Newton in 2022 to help manage global emerging markets and Asia portfolios. He joined us from Aikya Investment Management, where he was a research analyst covering global emerging markets. Prior to that, he was at Stewart Investors, and he worked previously with Paul Birchenough and Ian Smith at AXA Framlington, where he supported them in managing the firm’s global emerging markets funds. He began his career at UBS Investment Bank. Alex has a BA (Hons) in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford Univand is a CFA charterholder. Outside of work he enjoys spending time with his family. CFA and Chartered Financial Analyst are registered trademarks owned by CFA Institute.

Biografia	Ian Smith, partner, is a portfolio manager for William Blair’s Emerging Markets Leaders strategy. Before joining the firm in 2024, he was a global emerging markets portfolio manager at Newton from 2020 to 2023. Previously, Ian was a global emerging markets equity portfolio manager at AXA Investment Managers, where he worked since 2012. Before joining AXA, Ian was a research analyst covering Asian financials at Matrix Group and a research analyst covering emerging market financials at Nevsky Capital. He received a B.A. in economics and politics from Durham University.

Biografia	Paul Birchenough is a portfolio manager for William Blair’s Emerging Markets Leaders strategy. Before joining the firm in 2024, he was a global emerging markets portfolio manager at Newton from 2020 to 2023. Previously, Paul was a global emerging markets equity portfolio manager at AXA Investment Managers, where he worked since 2011. Before joining AXA, Paul was a research analyst at Nevsky Capital. Before that, he held various roles at KPMG, including positions in corporate finance, transaction services, and audit. Paul is an Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA). He received a BSc Hons in mathematics from Nottingham University.

Biografia	Sophia is an analyst in the 4Factor team at Ninety One where she focuses on global financials research. Sophia joins the firm having spent over a decade as an Emerging Markets portfolio manager at Newton Investment Management and most recently at Brook Asset Management, where she helped to launch both growth and income portfolios. Sophia started her career at Newton Investment Management where she spent five years as a global financials analyst, from where she moved to Baillie Gifford and then returned to Newton. Sophia graduated from Cambridge University with a Master of Arts in Classics and Master of Philosophy. She also holds the Investment Management Certificate and is a CFA® Charterholder.
Robert Marshall-Lee	Portfolio Manager	2014	2020
Biografia	Robert is investment leader of the Emerging and Asian equity team. He is a lead portfolio manager and a member of the team managing the Asian Income strategy. Since joining Newton in 1999, Robert has worked as a global industry analyst specialising in the mining, paper, steel, tobacco and utility sectors, before becoming a portfolio manager. Since early 2011, Robert has been the lead manager on our emerging market equity strategies. Robert began his career at Deloitte & Touche as a supervisor in the financial services practice. He holds the ACA (Chartered Accountant) and ASIP (Investment) qualifications. 16 years at Newton 20 years’ investment experience
Naomi Waistell	Investment Manager	2015	2020
Biografia	Ms. Waistell joined Polar Capital in August 2020. From February 2010, she worked at Newton Investment Management where, since September 2014, she was an investment manager on the emerging markets and Asian equity team. Prior to that, she was an investment manager on the European and Global equity teams at Newton, where she has been employed since February 2010. Ms. Whitbread is an investment manager on the emerging markets equities team at Newton, where she was employed from 2005 to 2010 and rejoined in January 2011. Naomi began her career as an associate at Praefinium Partners Investment Management in 2007 before moving to the financial consultancy arm of the Capita Group in 2009. Her specific area of interest and expertise is managing portfolios with an ESG focus.
